Instrumentation Transformers are used for measurement and protective application, together with equipment such as meters and relays. Their role in electrical system is of primary importance as they are means of “stepping down” the current of a system to measurable values, such as 5A or 1A in the case of a current transformer. This offers the advantage that measurement and protective equipment can be standardized on a few values of current.
